Dangerous storm bound for SEQ, north Brisbane

A "DANGEROUS" thunderstorm that has taken a roof off a house is predicted to hit the Brisbane CBD, as police warn residents to stay inside their homes.

The Bureau of Meteorology is warning that "heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones are likely".

The "very dangerous" thunderstorm is forecast to affect Mount Nebo, Highvale, Samford and the D'Aguilar Ranges by 10:55am, and Brisbane CBD, Strathpine, Kallangur and Narangba by 11:25am.

The storm warning now includes Somerset, Lockyer, Brisbane, Moreton Bay council areas as it moves east.

Police are warning people in Hampton and Crows Nest to stay inside until the storm passes.

Emergency services have reported that the storm has removed the roof off a house at Goombungee.

The BOM updated its severe weather warning at 10am to include parts of Brisbane's north.

The severe storm is tracking to hit Fernvale, Mount Nebo and Highvale by 10.55am, which could see damaging winds, heavy rain and large hail hit the region.
