Cyclone planning alert for aged care providers

With Cyclone Oma bearing down on southeast Queensland and northern New South Wales, the Department of Health has issued an industry alert to aged care providers.

The department has stressed the importance of all aged care providers being well prepared and ready to respond to emergency events.

"Maintaining quality care under these circumstances requires effective emergency risk management and planning," the department stated in the alert.

"It is important that you review your plans and prepare for any potential impact to your service."

Providers have been pointed to the department's website for resources to be considered in their planning.

It has also highlighted the fact that the The Australian Government Bureau of Meteorology Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre provides regular updates and information regarding the current conditions.
