CQ’s BIGGEST MUD RUN EVENT - DIRTY FOR A PINK CAUSE
Saturday 12 March will see volunteers and not for profit organisation, Tickled Pink CQ Inc, host Central Queensland’s largest fundraising obstacle course event, Mud Run Emerald.
Located on Talafa Road, walking distance from the Emerald Domestic Airport, the 5km obstacle event guarantees participants to be crawling, wading, climbing, walking and running through over 20+ obstacles designed for all fitness levels, including children from 5 years for the 1km option.
MRE2016 is shaping up to be the biggest event yet with registrations numbers expected to exceed last years’1500 mud runners. Event organisers are planning on breaking the previous $55, 000 fundraising effort and are excited to announce the release of ticket sales for Friday the 25th of September 2015 from 8pm, via our website www.mudrunemerald.com.au.
Emerald Mayor, Cr Peter Maguire, advised the event would bring significant economic and social benefit to the town.
He said, “Mud Run Emerald has a much welcome economic impact on our region with people travelling from interstate to join the course which equates to accommodation nights and a whole range of injections into our local economy.
“Importantly though, the event has a positive social influence on our residents, encouraging them to get active and help fund the vital health and cancer support services needed for our region.”
Sponsorship Coordinator, Kirsty Appleton advised that the event had been established to improve the accessibility of health services within the community.
She said, “The sad reality is that many people are affected by cancer – no matter what their financial circumstances or their location. It’s vital that regional townships like Emerald have access to emotional and practical support programs as well as specialist cancer treatments.”
Kirsty advised, “Funds raised from earlier events have been invested in specialised training of the Breast and Prostate Cancer Care Nurses through La Trobe University, along with increased financial assistance schemes which aim to support out of pocket medical expenses and travel costs for patients requiring treatment outside of the Central Highlands region.
“This funding is extremely important in ensuring rural and regional communities have that capacity to build resilience against the lack of funding models in our health services sector.”
