Coast waterfalls showing off their splendour

FEBRUARY has seen the heavens open and send megalitres of rainfall down onto the Sunshine Coast.

Recent rain and storms have filled our dams - with 378mm falling for the monthly total - almost double the monthly average of 196mm.

Bureau of Meteorology said it has been the wettest February since 2015 following last year's meagre 84.9mm.

The month started heavily with 87.4mm falling on the first day of the month.

In the last week alone, 174mm has fallen throughout the Coast and surrounds.

While it is bad news for our sodden sporting fields, it is great news for the farmers, and better news for those chasing waterfalls.

Popular hotspots in Gardner, Kondalilla and Booloumba are overflowing, attracting locals and tourists alike.

Local photographer Dan Holden captured stunning drone footage near Image Flat Rd in Nambour, of water cascading naturally down the cliff face.

With a deep swimming hole, rope swings and fast-flowing falls, Gardners is arguably the pick of a good bunch.

Kondalilla Falls in the Blackall Ranges features a beautiful walking track and picturesque falls.

If you have a 4x4, Booloumba Falls are well worth the 30-minute drive from Kenilworth with plenty of rapids on offer.

Slightly closer to the Coast are the Buderim Forest and Wappa Falls, great for a quick dip.

But what about the other waterfalls trickling into hidden streams and gorges, tucked away in quiet rainforests with ample parking and few people?

Gheerulla Falls are so well hidden they don't have a carpark, but if you drive along Delicia Rd in Mapleton, you might stumble upon this piece of paradise.

Peters Creek circuit - part of the Conondale Range Great Walk - you can't just settle for just creek views.

The picturesque boulder-strewn creek with crisp water trickling along the rock pools has more in store.

Just over a kilometre from Buderim Village, lies the unofficially named Serenity Falls. A rainforest packed with trickling streams, towering trees and a waterfall.

Baxter and Summer falls are two others not so well known.
