Two-decade love story has its happily ever after

IT WAS the love story that was 20 years in the making.

So it was no surprise that 88-year-old Frank Raymond couldn't wait for those immortal words 'you may now kiss the bride' to land a smooch on his new wife - the headline grabbing 93-year-old Sylvia Martin.

"No kissing yet," Sylvia's grandson yelled out during the ceremony at Goodwin Village in Canberra.

The warning was not heeded!

"Being married is the most wonderful thing in the world - what else could there be?" Frank told the Canberra Times.

The couple's love story captured the hearts of Australia when Sylvia turned to Facebook to help her choose her dress for the big day.

The couple, who live in a retirement village together, met nearly 20 years ago but Frank's numerous proposals always fell on deaf ears.

But after overcoming some relationship-ending obstacles - illness, distance - the pair have finally tied the knot in front of friends and family.

"It's been the most wonderful day," Sylvia said, wearing the dress social media users helped pick out.

The pair plan to go on a cruise for their honeymoon before starting their new life together with possibly a fresh start in a new destination.

Congratulations Sylvia and Frank and good luck!
