Bruce Springsteen returns to relax on Queensland beach

AFTER dipping his toe in our waters last time he toured Australia, Bruce Springsteen has bypassed Brisbane this time around to join an extended stay on the Gold Coast.

The US rocker and his E Street Band arrived on the Gold Coast on the weekend after a spectacular full moon concert outdoors at Hanging Rock, in Victoria, on Saturday night.

Springsteen has taken a leaf out of AC/DC's songbook and set up camp at the Sheraton Mirage while he's in Queensland to play two sold-out concerts at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.

It's a fair bet the audience at his first Brisbane stand tonight can look forward to hearing Springsteen's February 14 classic Valentine's Day, from 1987's Tunnel of Love album.

The Boss became a vocal fan of the Coast on his last tour Down Under.

The singer spruiked the city's praises to his 2014 Brisbane audience, telling them he'd spent the day enjoying a 200km motorbike ride, stopping to take photos at Mermaid Beach and Currumbin, before rumbling down the coast to Byron Bay for a break and a burger.

In a blog called "Gold Coast Australia - the Last Beach Party", Springsteen posted photos of himself back on the Coast the day after the 2014 Brisbane show, at the beach with band mates including pianist Roy "the Professor" Bittan, who he carried on his shoulders out into the surf before dumping him under a wave.

Van Zandt, who starred in HBO's hit TV series The Sopranos, will host his radio show, Little Steven's Underground Garage Dance Party, at the Hard Rock Cafe Surfers Paradise tomorrow night (Wednesday).

Hard Rock Cafe general manager Maurice Van Tilburg said members of the public were welcome to join the audience.

"Steven will be onstage playing DJ and doing his radio show," he said.

"He did the same in Sydney when they were there.

"Bruce and the E Street Band are Hard Rock favourites."

Springsteen and the E Street Band play their second Brisbane show on Thursday.
