Brennan's art pops up again
FORMER Noosa and Sunshine Coast councillor and passionate artist Lew Brennan has joined with wine bar and funky restaurant That Place in Pomona to create a "pop-up" gallery for diners and visitors from August 6.
The "boutique" exhibition of about 12 works - ranging from recent works to his charcoal realism pieces - will run through until August 31.
"The real excitement for me is having my art somewhere where I am very comfortable and which I think suits my art," Brennan said.
"Galleries can often be too cold or cluttered with lots of work by lots of artists of varying styles and genre.
"That Place in Pomona has such a good feel to it - a cross of modern industrial, with country handmade and lots of style.
"Louise, the owner of TPiP, is a beautiful girl who has a great story to tell about dreaming and creating this great little piece of modern culture and putting it in a small country town with traditional values.
"The food is amazing and of course there is good wine on hand and a boutique brewery out the back for some excellent beers brewed right on the premises."
Louise and husband Mark are great supporters of the arts and invited long-established realist artist and new friend Brennan to showcase select pieces - essentially creating a gallery on the walls of the restaurant.
"It's amazing timing, really," Brennan said.
"My latest pieces have focused on urban scenes as well as country town culture and the changes I have seen around these parts over the years.
"I wanted to depict young energy in the country today: good, bad and indifferent.
"Things are a lot different these days and almost all good.
"Bonsai Brewhouse and TPiP are evidence of that with their urban/country mix, and yet there's still the old-school values. I love it."
That Place In Pomona is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday and bookings can be made on 0488048890.
