Best boutique retreat in QLD is right here on the Coast

IT'S a busy time of year for resorts, and will only get busier as the end-of-year holidays approach.

But staff at Spicer's Tamarind Retreat have reason to pause and celebrate, after winning both statewide and national awards this month.

Their Maleny resort was named best boutique offering by the Queensland Hotels Association on Wednesday, and earlier this month took out the Australian Hotels Association's top gong in its superior accommodation category.

General manager of Spicer's Tamarind Retreat Bobbie Murphy said the process had involved a secret visit by a judge. She laughed at the suggestion it kept her staff on their toes.

"It's not about keeping them on their toes - because they do deliver a really high level of service, consistently," she said.

The resort was established five years ago on an 18-acre property full of "lush rainforest" on Obi Lane South, Maleny, Ms Murphy said.

It is owned by Brisbane residents Jude and Graeme Turner.

"It's a huge celebration for the team and it's just recognition of what we do here," Ms Murphy said.
