BALENO is back. Suzuki Australia confirmed it is reviving the nameplate for its incoming all-new Baleno hatchback, due to arrive here in the third quarter of the year.
The Baleno will sit between the Swift and Vitara in Suzuki's range, so although a potential price hasn't been revealed, expect the small hatch to cost between these two at $16,990 and $22,990 driveaway (Queensland) prices respectively.
A Suzuki spokesman told us Queensland executives had already driven the new Baleno and they were very impressed with its internal size, seeing the car as successfully bridging the light car and small car segment.
The size aspect will be key for Suzuki to try and snare sales from those who consider the Swift too small internally for their needs.
For example, while the funky little Swift is hampered by a titchy 210-litre boot space, the Baleno offers a more practical 355 litres.
"Baleno will appeal to traditional small segment customers along with current Swift owners looking to step up into a larger small hatch," Suzuki Australia commented.
Exceptional performance with outstanding fuel economy are also promised thanks to a combination of Suzuki's weight saving techniques employed in the new Vitara, and confirmation that the Baleno will be available with the brand's Boosterjet direct injection turbo engine.
Small segment staples these days will be included, such as a 7-inch touchscreen, navigation and Apple CarPlay and Android Audio smartphone connectivity.
In other Suzuki news, it has been confirmed that a turbocharged variant of the Vitara small SUV will arrive in the second quarter of this year.
In addition, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is now included in all Vitara models.
The Turbo Vitara - based on the Vitara S just launched in Europe - will be the flagship variant with its turbo engine and more premium, sporty feel. Full spec and pricing will be revealed closer to the model's launch.
