AVEO opens first stage of Newcastle development

LEADING retirement provider Aveo Group officially unveiled the first stage of its $250 million Aveo Newcastle development with a grand opening event on Saturday, November 18.

Eighty percent of the 50 properties in Aveo Newcastle's Stage 1 have sold, which comprises two-bedroom independent living villas priced from $399,000.

The $24 million first phase also includes a world-class community centre that will be at the heart of this retirement community. The three-level architecturally designed building will provide residents with entertainment spaces, lounge areas, a craft room and resident bar, along with a health and wellness suite with consulting rooms, hair salon and purpose built gymnasium.

Kicking off at the new community centre from 10:00 am, Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Councillor Nuatali Nelmes and Aveo's CEO Geoff Grady attended the event for a ribbon cutting ceremony and unveiling of the plaque. The free public event also included activities, entertainment, a sausage sizzle, food trucks and wine tasting. Villas will also be open for inspection to all.

Aveo's Executive General Manager of Integrated Retirement Communities, Jason Eldering said the grand opening marked a significant milestone and was thrilled to welcome the wider community to enjoy this event.

"It was a perfect opportunity for locals to join us in celebrating the launch of Aveo Newcastle - we had so much to showcase at the grand opening that was very exciting for existing and future residents," Mr Eldering said.

"The response from the wider community has been overwhelmingly positive - the fact that so many properties have already sold can be put down to the increasing demand for seniors looking to downsize without compromising on location or lifestyle.

"We anticipate Stage 1 to sell out in the next few weeks, which will be a tremendous outcome confirming that Aveo Newcastle truly is a masterfully planned retirement community."

Aveo Newcastle welcomed its first residents in August, one of whom was local Richard McGuigan, who has thoroughly enjoyed his move to his new villa.

"The villas are modern, low maintenance and have plenty of natural light," Mr McGuigan said.

"The prospect of on-site medical care being provided and a friendly communal atmosphere is great too."

Mr Eldering added that care and wellbeing services at Aveo Newcastle will be a big focus for the community.

"It's extremely important we provide our residents and their families with a peace of mind, so ensuring we have the necessary care services for our residents to age in place over time, is absolutely imperative - it's all about providing a community for life." Mr Eldering said.

Stage 1 works will also include upgrades to the Shortland Waters Golf Club with the new clubhouse set for completion next month.

The second stage of Aveo Newcastle will add a further 45 villas to the site and is expected to be delivered in 2018.

Once complete, the six-year $220 million Aveo Newcastle project will feature 300 independent villas and 127 aged care rooms catering to the over 65s community.

The community is located on 33 Shearwater Drive, Shortland NSW 2307 in Shortland Waters, just 11 kilometres from Newcastle's CBD.
