Ava captains Queensland team to win silver

It's been a rewarding year in Netball for Year 7 Glennie girl, Ava Black. In July, her skills in the positions of centre and wing attack were recognised locally as she represented the Under 12 Darling Downs region team. After a successful meet, she was selected to play on the Queensland Under 12 Netball team for the National Netball Championships held in Perth early September.

The Queensland team consisted of players from the Darling Downs, South Coast and Metropole regions with Ava identified by coaches and voted in by peers as Captain. Six teams competed in a twelve game week long competition with Victoria and Queensland earning their places in the final. Both teams fought hard on the court with Victoria winning Gold and Queensland securing Silver with only two points the difference.

"It felt great to wear the Queensland uniform. As Captain, it was my responsibility to make sure all my team members were happy. Skills development in Netball was the highlight for me. Travelling out of Queensland for the first time, staying in a hotel next to the ocean, sight-seeing and the social dinners were all a bonus. I'll look forward to future contact with my team members as we all progress through regional competitions" said Ava.

Ava will continue her training as a member of the Regional Darling Downs Cub Program and in November will begin intensive training for the State Age Championships taking place in Townsville, July 2016.
