Artist paints mural in exchange for coffee

IN a perfect gesture of community spirit, a local artist has painted a large mural on the wall of a Cooroy cafe in exchange for food, coffee and added publicity.

Annie Waller was having coffee at French and Gorgeous and was chatting to owner Helen about brightening up the cafe's walls.

"I was talking to the owner Helen who said that she wanted to put something on the wall that would bring the outside inside and brighten up the corner," Annie said.

"I said I would do a mural for her, and Helen said she would love that, she just can't afford it.

"So I said, well you feed me and give me coffee while I paint, and I'll do it for free.

"I suggested doing a mural of a wisteria (a vine flower).

"She is thrilled with the result and has asked me to paint another one on the opposite wall."

Annie hopes coffee sippers enjoy the artwork and the mural will give her some extra publicity to pick up work as an artist.
