And the winners of the Logie Awards are...

AUSTRALIAN television stars walked the red carpet in Melbourne last night as they came together to celebrate the 59th TV Week Logie Awards.

The winner of the top award, the Gold Logie, went to Samuel Johnson for his outstanding portrayal of Australian music industry legend, Molly Meldrum.

In character, Molly was in the audience and then on stage, unexpectedly, to add drama to the evening.

"Now, Sam, I know it's very hard to play an old drama queen like myself, and you did a great job, right," Molly offered the crowd.

"So on behalf of the drama queens of Australia, I would like to crown you also with my gold hat, here it is, well done."

Johnson beat The Project's Waleed Aly, last year's Gold Logie winner, plus personalities Grant Denyer, Jessica Marais, Peter Helliar and Rodger Corser.
