All that jazz and razamatazz coming to Noosa

NEW Orleans, Chicago and all that jazz is coming to Noosa. And throw in songs that rocked Las Vegas and it's fair to say everything that's traditional and new in jazz styles will be on show when the Noosa Jazz Party takes off this month.

Noosa Chorale will launch the 10-day Party at the J Theatre with "Showtime in Las Vegas” featuring hits made famous in the casino town by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Elvis, Sammy Davis Jnr and others.

As excited Chorale president, Gai Ramsay, told Seniors: "It will be a winner. We're appearing with the Australian Jazz Ensemble and Melbourne singer Juliarna Clark.

"This is our fourth year with these marvellous musicians and each time we've had packed houses.

"I'm especially looking forward to hearing Juliarna who will weave some 'Old Black Magic' when she channels the songs the great Keely Smith made famous.”

The festival starts on Friday August 24 and organiser and co-founder Richard Stevens expects Noosa to jump with world class jazz played by the best musos in Australia.

"This is our 26th year and I can hardly believe how it has grown since 1992. This year is going to be sensational. We've never had so many restaurants and other venues signed up and so eager.

"We'll have 40 different gigs during the 10 days and that doesn't include the pop-up street bands in places like Sunshine Beach and Tewantin and the free concert at Lions Park in Noosaville.

"We're thrilled, too, by the numbers of jazz fans from inter-state, New Zealand and other overseas countries. Advance ticket sales have never been so good, especially for the centrepiece of the Party-four nights of professional jazz starting on Thursday August 30 at the J.”

Richard is president of Noosa Heads Jazz Club and, like Noosa Chorale, is a not-for-profit group.

"Any profits we make are used to keep classic jazz alive on the Coast and in Noosa in the spirit of jazz festivals around the world. In fact, I would say the Noosa Jazz Party is unique. It's the only one of its kind in the country, if not the world.”
