Adopt a black cat this Friday the 13th
IT'S a good thing that none of the staff at the Sunshine Coast Animal Refuge are extremely superstitious as they've got some black cats to look after this Friday the 13th.
The superstition to avoid black cats on Friday the 13th developed in the Middle Ages when it was believed that black cats were actually witches in disguise.
SCAR staff manager Carl Bird said while black cats tended to be a bit more outgoing than the other cats, he was sure none at the refuge were witches in disguise and added that no one at the refuge would be afraid to cast an eye on them today.
"All types of spooky things can go on with the black cats, they can get a bit more wound up and a bit more playful," he said.
"But obviously they get our care as always.
"It's not the cats' fault, they didn't decide to come out black, so we absolutely look after the beautiful cats no matter the day."
Mr Bird said that anyone willing to cross paths with a black cat today could come and see some of the cats and kittens SCAR had available for adoption.
"We've got quite a few black cats in at the moment and they will be looking for a home this Black Friday," he said.
"There's plenty of them to look at and play with."
He said that those adopting a black cat wouldn't have to worry about another Black Friday for the rest of the year as the next one wasn't until January 2017.
