Access for all at City Libraries

On the Gold Coast we are fortunate to have one of the best library services in the world.

Library membership is free for Gold Coast residents and it's easy to join and take advantage of the libraries' extensive collection of resources from any of the 13 branch libraries that stretch from Upper Coomera to Coolangatta, or the mobile library service that stops at locations across the coast.

Assistive and adaptive equipment is available to assist with using collections and services. Clearview Readers, located at both our Nerang and Southport Branch Libraries, enlarge print text from books, newspapers and documents, great if you are having trouble reading small print.

The readers will also read aloud text in 30 languages using a computer generated voice which is great for those with vision impairment or those brushing up on another language. Portable Audio Loops and magnifiers are also available for individuals who may be hearing or vision impaired, or if you've just left your specs at home. Physically walking into a library isn't the only way to access our huge range of resources.

If you're unable to personally visit a library you can apply for our Home Library Service. This service is for unwell, incapacitated or convalescing residents who can't attend the library themselves and have no support from friends or family to borrow the books on their behalf.

Our wonderful library volunteers will select the books and deliver them to your door. eBooks and eAudiobooks are also a great option if you can't personally visit your local library. These books can be downloaded and accessed directly from your eReader and are great if you struggle with the bulkiness of hard copy books.

If you need assistance with eBooks or eAudiobooks, staff at your nearest branch library are available to answer any questions you have. If you would like to learn more about the Clearview Reader, information sessions are being held at Nerang Branch Library on Friday 11 December 10.30am - 11.30am and at Southport Branch Library on Tuesday 19 January 9.30am - 10am.

For more information about the Gold Coast Library Service go to our website at or visit your nearest branch library.
