CUTE in the looks department but with serious hot hatch fizz under the bonnet, the new 103kW Abarth 595 has hit Australia with its sharpest price yet.
Arriving in both hardtop and convertible forms, these beefed up versions of the butter-wouldn't-melt Fiat 500s are priced at $27,500 for the tin top and $31,500 for the rag top, bringing better value to the brand.
FCA Australia hopes the new Abarth 595 will bridge the gap between the Fiat 500 range and other (costlier) performance variants of the Abarth range, expecting to bring new customers to the Scorpion club.
The 595s are powered by Abarth's 1.4-litre turbocharged engine good for 103kW and 206Nm, mated to a five-speed manual as standard, helping them hit 100kmh in 7.9 seconds.
Compared to a normal Fiat 500, Abarths are lowered, feature beefier suspension and brakes, get wider tyres and a sport exhaust.
Shoppers score 16-inch alloys, a 7-inch TFT display, Abarth side stripes and Abarth fabric seats, while under the skin is a Torque Transfer Control system for at-the-limit handling, a Sport mode calibration to optimise throttle response, gear shifts and steering weight, plus a funky up-shift light alerting the driver when playing at the redline.
The new 595s are on sale now.
