A picnic for mum in Palmwoods

GROWING up, no doubt your mum packed your lunch box daily before she sent you off to school.

For Mother's Day why not return the favour with a gourmet picnic in the heart of Palmwoods.

Nestled away in The Lane, Martine Lokan from Village Food and Events has organised a picnic to provide the perfect Mother's Day treat.

It's not your average sandwich affair, with the crates full of local produce made with love, including - Woombye creamy brie, Peachester gold triple smoked ham, Walters organic bread and various salads.

Once you have booked, you turn up, collect your crate and find a spot in the garden.

"We want mums to come alone and enjoy a relaxing afternoon with BYO drinks," she said.

Martine has been in the catering industry for 25 years.

With a set of twin boys, she left the restaurant business, and has now found the perfect balance running Village Food and Events.

She said they had catered weddings, but this would hopefully be the first of many picnics hosted.

"We can set up the picnic wherever you would like... hens parties, baby showers - the whole kit and caboodle," she said.

"We recently did a hens party at Maleny - we rocked up with the crates and then two hours later went back for them.

"People love picnics - they're relaxed and less formal and it's a shared experience."

She said the crates are full of seasonal food.

"It's a bit of a surprise when you unpack it, we have menus inside and it's all locally produced - it's like a tour of the Coast."

The Mother's Day picnic will be held on Sunday, May 8, The Lane, Main St Palmwoods from 12-4pm.

The picnic is $45 each for adults, $25 children, or under 10 $15.
