A new chance to get Mental as Anything in Ballina
MENTAL As Anything have entered a new chapter in their music career by releasing new singles Shake Off Your Sandals and Goat Tracks in my Sandpit, and under new partnership with Universal Music.
The new wave/pop-rock band has graced our stages, radio airwaves, record books, playlists, TV screens and award nights for close to 40 years.
With 12 albums between 1979 and 2009, Mental As Anything's contribution to the Australian music landscape was formally recognised in 2009 with the band's induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
Mental As Anything's new partnership with Universal Music Australia covers both their cherished back catalogue and new material.
Shake Off Your Sandals (And Come Back to Bed), their first new single, is an instant pop classic with a distinct Mentals twist.
The second single, Goat Tracks in my Sandpit, is co-lead vocalist Martin Plaza's hillbilly stomper.
Martin Plaza is the pseudonym of Australian vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Martin Edward Murphy.
Mental As Anything formed at an art school in Sydney in 1976.
Their original hit songs were generated either individually or collectively. They also hit the Australian charts with covers of songs by Roy Orbison, Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry.
Their top-10 Australian singles are If You Leave Me, Can I Come Too? and Too Many Times (both from 1981), Live It Up (1985) and Rock and Roll Music (1988).
Internationally, Too Many Times made the Canadian top 40 in 1982 and Live It Up peaked at number three in the UK, number four in Norway and number six in Germany after it featured in 1986 Australian film Crocodile Dundee.
