Three charged over 71kg cocaine haul

ABOUT 71kg of cocaine hidden in a shipment from Panama has been seized.

The Australian Border Force said officers found up to 67 packages of white powder - with a potential street value of up to $25 million - hidden in a shaft of a hydraulic press.

On Wednesday, Australian Federal Police executed five search warrants across Sydney and charged three men with importing and intending to distribute the drugs.

"Law enforcement will not rest in the fight against illegal drug importations," AFP national manager crime operations Shane Connelly said.

"The size and sophistication of this seizure and the amount of money involved in this enterprise is hard to comprehend, but the high demand in Australia for cocaine is what has encouraged these criminals to attempt this importation."
