Man charged for trying to run over bride at wedding

A MAN has been charged after allegedly trying to run over the bride and guests at a wedding in Sydney with his car.

Police say the man became involved in an argument with wedding party members about 9.30pm on Saturday.

He then allegedly climbed into a Mazda 3 and drove it towards two people, narrowly missing them.

A witness told police he tried to take the man's keys from the car's ignition when he began reversing at high speed towards numerous wedding guests, including the bride.

No one was hit and the man left the scene.

Police say they tracked down the man and arrested him at midnight on Sunday while he was walking along a footpath.

They searched him and allegedly found marijuana on him.

The 55-year-old was taken to Narellan Police Station and charged with dangerous and menacing driving, driving without a licence and drug possession.

He was granted conditional bail and will face court in a fortnight.
