Indigenous actor David Gulpilil gets Best Actor at Cannes

INDIGENOUS Australian actor David Gulpilil has had his work honoured at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, being awarded a best actor gong.

The renowned actor, who came to international prominence through roles in The Tracker and Storm Boy, won the award for his performance in Charlie's Country.

The Rolf de Heer-directed film was given a standing ovation after its screening at Cannes, before Gulpilil was announced as an award-winner in the Un Certain Regard section of the festival.
