Compton suspended over response to Hillsborough disaster
SOUTH Yorkshire police chief David Crompton was suspended yesterday, accused of perpetuating the myth drunken Liverpool fans were to blame for the crush that killed 96 supporters at Hillsborough stadium in 1989.
The Chief Constable's suspension came a day after an inquest jury found the fans who died had been unlawfully killed and that former police superintendent David Duckenfield was "responsible for manslaughter by gross negligence".
Mr Crompton was not involved in the events of 1989.
