Australian VWs may have been fitted for emissions cheating

IT is still unclear whether any Australians will be hit by the Volkswagen emissions cheating scandal.

But an Australian legal group said it was likely to affect Australians and that it was investigating possible consumer law action against the car company.

Last week it was revealed Volkswagen diesel cars were fitted with devices used to cheat environmental tests.

Maurice Blackburn Lawyers class actions principal Damian Scattini said it was likely cars in Australia would be among the 11 million affected worldwide.

He said if cars in Australia had been affected, then buyers would not have got what they paid for. And this could lead to legal action.

"Many people will have bought these cars thinking they were getting a clean, green car with good mileage but it is looking increasingly likely that for many people worldwide, it is not the case," Mr Scattini said.
