Seventeen Seventy Bowls Club celebrates birthday

YOUR STORY: Seventeen Seventy Bowls Club celebrated its 15th birthday on March 28 with a good roll up present to join in the fun of the occasion.

Although the green was laid in 2000, the club was formed in 1994 when a group of enthusiastic locals got together and formed a committee with the aim of having a bowls green installed in the future.

The committee had talks with local developer Lance Woodrow which resulted in Lance deciding to donate a block of land.

The club will always be indebted to Lance and his wife Carol for their generosity, and after a lot of hard work by the
bowls committee their dream became a reality.

After a couple of hours of social bowls those present got stuck into afternoon tea supplied by the club members.

The birthday cake was cut by the longest serving members still playing - Warren Fraser, Leveen Campbell, and John
and Stephanie Fraser, with newest members Ken Diplock and Eric Watson.

Thanks also to Jacki and Bob McKewen from Bendigo Bank, who sponsor club events, and Member for Burnett Stephen
Bennett for attending.

Thanks also to Geoff and Gwen Coleman who were foundation members in 1994 for attending.

Thanks, John.
